Notre Dame women’s basketball adds key transfers for 2024-25 season

Date:

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – The college basketball season is less than a month away, as the Notre Dame women tip off their year in the beginning of November.

The Irish are coming off a Sweet 16 appearance, but this year they have their sights set on much more as they have brought back several starters and added some key transfers.

The two big transfers that the Irish added were both forwards, as Notre Dame picked up Pittsburgh’s Liatu King and Marquette’s Liza Karlen.

King was named to the All-ACC first team last year after averaging a double-double with 18.8 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per game, including two double-doubles against Notre Dame.

Karlen was an All-Big East first team selection after averaging 17.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

“I’ve obviously played against schools like Notre Dame in my time at Marquette, so to see this environment — especially at a football school — a school that’s incredibly excited about its women’s basketball program, it’s been truly remarkable to see all the support we have, and I’m super excited,” Karlen says.

These two graduate seniors provide experience and depth as they work into this talented roster.

“We’re just growing,” says Irish head coach Niele Ivey. “Trying to figure out where does Liatu like the ball, where does Liza like the ball. We have a lot of new pieces, and I think that’s the recipe that you guys are going to see is that they’re unselfish. Anyone can step up since we have a lot of weapons. I hope that helps us as we’re going against opponents because it’s not just really one person you can stop.”

Notre Dame’s regular season kicks off on Nov. 4 with a home matchup against Mercyhurst. For a full look at the team’s schedule, click here.
