4 Big Montreal Canadiens Predictions

Date:

While the puck is set to drop on the Montreal Canadiens’ season tonight, there’s still time to play the prediction game, and without further ado, here goes:

1-Kirby Dach will have the best season of his career

That means two things: He will stay healthy and set a personal best in points. If you recall, back in 2022-23, he had 38 points in 58 games, which means he was on pace for 54 points; this year, he will reach 60.

2-Lane Hutson will not win the Calder Trophy, but he’ll be close

It takes a lot for a young blueliner to win the Calder Trophy. Generally, in the NHL, that means a lot of points, even if the player is a defenseman. Don’t get me wrong; Hutson will gather his fair share of points, but as things stand, he’s on the Canadiens’ second power play unit and might not see enough action to put up big digits. Remember, Slafkovsky wasn’t put on the first line right away, just like Hutson won’t get the first PP immediately.

3-Cole Caufield will reach the big 4-0

The top line is together from the start this season, and it will help all three players find their marks much faster. The diminutive snipper stumbled out of the starting blocks last season, but he won’t this time. Yes, he’s become a more complete player under Martin St-Louis’ tutelage, but a leopard doesn’t change his spots.

4-Samuel Montembeault will play 50 games

St-Louis might have refused to commit himself by saying he’ll be the number one tender all season, but that’s what he’ll be in any case. With the 4 Nations Face-Off right around the corner and the next winter olympics fast approaching, the Becancourt native will be ready to deliver.

What about you? What would be your four big Canadiens’ predictions? Disagree with mine? Let me know why in the comments; who doesn’t like a good hockey debate?
