“I don’t know whether that would have affected me in the past, I’ve never pulled out after the auction,” the Australian skipper said
Recently, the BCCI announced that those pulling out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will warrant a a two-year ban for the overseas players. Moreover, those who do not register for the mega auction will not be eligible to put their name forward in next year’s auction as well. While admitting that the new rules do pose a challenge, Australia captain Pat Cummins says Test cricket and World Cups are top priorities, while everything else takes a back seat.
“I’ll work out in the next little bit what this season looks like. There’s a bit of a tweak in the rules, but I don’t know whether that would have affected me in the past, I’ve never pulled out after the auction,” Cummins told Sydney Morning Herald.
“But it is one more factor to consider with the IPL. Test cricket is the absolute No. 1 priority, World Cups are right up there, and then I think you use them as your tent poles and work out what else makes sense around that.”
Cummins is one of IPL’s most expensive players, with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) securing his services before IPL 2024 for INR 20.50 crore. He led SRH to the IPL 2024 final, where his side lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Chennai. Cummins also led Australia to the World Cup title, pipping India in Ahmedabad last year.
