The Primavera have reached the second break of the season, leaving behind a period that has not been the easiest. A slight slowdown, as happens to every football team now and then, and a run of match results that did not necessarily reflect the team’s performances. This is, however, the foundation of a regroup. The performance has always been there, but compared to the great start of the season, we have not snatched as many points of late despite showing important signs of improvement.
Having dominated in the match against Empoli (4-1) and won the derby (3-1) at home, the team went on to draw with Cesena (1-1) and suffered a loss to Bologna away (1-3). With 13 points, we are tied third in the standings, only two points away from going top. The ranking, however, should only be looked at from time to time – the main task remains to work on ourselves.
Mister Guidi has always analysed what the team needs with lucidity and calmness, knowing the environment and the direction needed for the team. A strong and varied attack, boosted by goals from Bonomi and Ibrahimović, that creates chances and can be further built on. A practical defence that has already seen three different goalkeepers constantly improving. All in all, a new project well on its way, despite needing more time to gel together.
Let us not forget European football. Our international campaign has been more complicated so far, with no luck yet between facing Liverpool (0-0) and Bayer Leverkusen (1-3). An unexpected string of results, given the Primavera’s extraordinary performances in past seasons. The chance to make up for it, however, is coming soon – AC Milan v Cremonese next Saturday and after that AC Milan v Club Brugge at the PUMA House of Football.
