Former Flames’ Captain Linked To Rangers In Potential Signing

Date:

Mark Giordano still wants to play in the NHL, and the New York Rangers could be an option for the veteran defenseman.

Despite remaining unsigned up to this point, Giordano is determined to find a new home according to his agent Rich Winter.

“Mark has made the decision that he’s playing for a few more years,” Winter said. “He feels very confident. He’s been talking to a lot of people who tell him, ‘Don’t quit until they make you.’

“He clearly wants to play.”

At 41-years-old, Giordano’s desire is to be on a Stanley Cup contending team and The Athletic’s Pierre Lebrun the Rangers are at the top of that list.

“Giordano continues to chase an elusive Stanley Cup—making it a priority for him to try to land a depth job with one of the teams in contender mode,” LeBrun wrote. “The Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets, Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers are among those seen as appealing possibilities.”

Giordano served as captain of the Calgary Flames for eight seasons before becoming the Seattle Kraken’s first captain in their franchise history.

Last season, Giordano played for the Toronto Maple Leafs where he recorded three goals, six assists and nine points in 46 games.
