Barcelona prodigy continues to be among the most targeted players in Europe

After having his breakout season last year, Lamine Yamal has started the 2024-25 season in spectacular fashion. The FC Barcelona talisman is emerging as one of the leaders of the team’s attack at only 17 years of age and has also significantly improved his end product, which is quite clear from his five goals and five assists in eleven appearances up to now.

His speed and dribbling ability make him one of the most unbalancing wingers in the world today, and Barcelona are certainly enjoying the advantages of having such a weapon in their arsenal. However, Yamal has to make a lot of sacrifices to maintain this role, and this is becoming quite apparent with his every appearance.

The fouls he received in the match between Spain and Denmark have left a debate open regarding the ways the opponents adopt to stop him. In this aspect, Mundo Deportivo reports that Yamal is emerging as one of the players who receives the most fouls in both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.

After the first nine matches in La Liga, Lamine Yamal has received 23 fouls from opposition players. He stands third in this ranking, only behind Getafe’s Christian Uche (30 fouls), and Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso (27).

However, when this classification is limited to only wingers, Yamal has received the highest number of fouls, followed by Vinicius Junior (21), Take Kubo (20), Ez Abde (18), Ayoze Perez (15), Bryan Zaragoza (14), and Joffre Carreras (14).

The case is similar in the UEFA Champions League, where Yamal is once again one of the most punished players, as he has suffered 5 fouls up to now. This ranking is currently headed by the Celtic right-back Alistair Johnston (8 fouls).

Among wingers, Yamal is the most fouled player but is joined in this ranking by other wingers like Bryan Gil, Dan Ndoye, Riccardo Orsolini, and Jack Grealish, who all have also suffered 5 fouls each.
