NFL news, injury updates: Aidan Hutchinson has surgery for broken leg, Marvin Harrison Jr. in concussion protocol

Date:

The NFL Week 6 injury front is headlined by a couple of young stars who went down on Sunday and one that may have a big impact on the toughest division in the NFL. , but has four touchdown receptions and 279 receiving yards through the first six games of his rookie season.

For the first time since the current division format was adopted in 2002, four teams in the same division have at least four wins through six weeks. That division is the NFC North, home to the Detroit Lions who are dealing with a major loss coming out of their 47-9 blowout win over the Cowboys. Speaking of those Cowboys, not all is well in Dallas — at least when the team is playing at home, where they’re giving up nearly 40 points per game.

Here’s a look at some of the top stories in the NFL coming out of Week 6.

The Lions’ pass rushing specialist is leading the NFL in sacks with 6.5, but was carted off the field in Dallas on Sunday with what was confirmed to be a broken tibia. He had surgery on it in Dallas on Sunday, and is expected to miss the rest of the 2024 season, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Hutchinson had 11.5 sacks in 2023 and made his first Pro Bowl last season.

If you were to just look at the Dallas Cowboys road results this year, you’d find an 3-0 team that, while it has some things to clean up, has been able to come away with a couple close wins, even beating the 4-2 Steelers in Pittsburgh. To take a look a the Cowboys’ home results its to look at a team that’s barely been competitive, and has, for all but two quarters, gotten entirely stomped on home turf. The Cowboys have given up 119 points — 39.7 points per game — at home in three games this season.

After the worst home loss of the Jerry Jones era — coincidentally on his 82nd birthday — Jones said he’s not considering a coaching change, even as questions about Mike McCarthy continue to swirl. The Cowboys are off in Week 7, and play their next two games on the road.

One of the most exciting rookies in the NFL was stumbling and had to be held off the field during the Arizona Cardinals’ 34-13 loss at the Green Bay Packers. Harrison hadn’t caught a pass in the game yet when he was ruled out with a concussion, but has four touchdown receptions and 279 receiving yards through the first six games of his rookie season.
