Man Utd ‘agree Amorim deal’ as surprise start date revealed

Manchester United have reportedly agreed on a deal for Sporting CP boss Rúben Amorim to become their new head coach.

However, they are set to face a wait to see him in the Old Trafford hot seat for the first time as he replaces Erik ten Hag.

According to The Athletic, as part of the agreement which will bring Amorim to Manchester, he will be permitted to see out the next three games at Sporting before departing prior to November’s international break.

The Lisbon club’s hierarchy were keen to have him stay for league fixtures against Amadora and Braga in addition to a mouthwatering Champions League clash against his future rivals Manchester City next week.

The 39-year-old’s Sporting release clause is set at €10m but also includes a notice period of 30 days, although United will pay an additional €1m in order to secure his earlier departure.

Reports in Portugal claimed that Sporting were seeking a further €5m in compensation to let Amorim depart immediately – meaning his first game in charge is set to be the Premier League meeting with Ipswich on November 24.

In addition, discussions are ongoing regarding the staff who he hopes to bring with him to Old Trafford, including coaches Emanuel Ferro, Adelio Candido and Carlos Fernandes, as well as goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital and sports scientist Paulo Barreira.

It is unclear if interim Manchester United boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has expressed a willingness to remain as part of the new coach’s staff, will remain at the club.
