Oregon State warms up for 2024-25 women’s basketball season with exhibition win over Westmont

Date:

Oregon State staged a dress rehearsal for the 2024-25 women’s basketball season Friday night, beating Westmont College 59-51 in an exhibition game at Gill Coliseum.

Seniors AJ Marotte and Kelsey Rees scored 16 points each to lead the Beavers. The school said attendance was 2,500 for the exhibition.

Oregon State, unveiling a roster with seven new players following last year’s Elite Eight NCAA tournament run, never trailed after getting the lead late in the first quarter.

OSU shot 19 of 55 from the floor and 5 of 22 from three-point range. Everyone played except freshman forward Elisa Mehyar and junior guard Mackenzie Shivers.

Oregon State opens the season at 4:30 p.m. next Friday at Colorado State.

The 6-foot-5 Rees also grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked three shots in 25 minutes of action. Marotte hit two three-pointers, the only Beaver to make more than one. Sophomore guard Kennedie Shuler had six points and six assists.

Oregon State led 29-24 at halftime, but broke the game open during the third quarter, leading by as many as 18 points.

Westmont, a Division II school from Santa Barbara, California, had three players score in double figures, led by Sage Kramer’s 13 points.
