A move for a Barcelona star makes perfect sense for Manchester City

The January transfer window is a chance for Manchester City to refresh Pep Guardiola’s squad. It is obvious to see that the City squad has struggled with injuries and an increased workload this season. Next month’s transfer window is the chance for City to kickstart their rebuild and allow them to kick on in the race for a top-four finish. At this time, there is turmoil at Barcelona, which clubs like Manchester City could look to exploit. On that front, a move for one Barcelona star in particular does make perfect sense for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Giuseppe Labellarte has reported for TBR Football that Dani Olmo could be interested in a move to the Premier League. Labellarte further reports that Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are monitoring the situation surrounding the Barcelona star. As Labellarte reports Dani Olmo’s La Liga registration status has opened up the possibility of the Spanish international leaving Barcelona next month. A detailed report from Pol Ballús for The Athletic explains the situation surrounding Dani Olmo and how he could be available for clubs to move for next month.

A move for Dani Olmo makes sense for Manchester City if he becomes available.

As explained previously, Manchester City could take advantage of the situation surrounding Barcelona and Dani Olmo. They’d almost be mad not to if he does become available in a few days. But as a player, Dani Olmo would immediately add quality to Manchester City’s squad, especially in the final third. That is something Pep Guardiola’s side is screaming out for. They have lacked any quality or cutting edge in the final third and that is something a player like Dani Olmo would bring to the current City squad.

During his 15 appearances for Barcelona this season Olmo has played on the left wing and as an attacking midfielder (as per tranfermarkt.com). The Barcelona star has scored 6 goals and added 1 assist in those games. That is the type of player Manchester City need. The Spanish international is a proven performer at the highest level. He was superb for Spain during last summer’s European Championships. Olmo was also a key contributor for RB Leipzig before he moved to Barcelona last summer. If the chance to sign Olmo is there City must take it.

On paper, Dani Olmo would immediately improve City’s squad. Players like that don’t fall from trees. The situation surrounding Olmo’s registration may play into City’s hands. It’s a situation Manchester City should take advantage of as they seek to find solutions in the January transfer window. The January transfer window is typically hard to find good deals in. Dani Olmo’s situation could be one on the eve of the transfer window opening.
