After back-to-back wins, DWU’s Allison Meyerink claims GPAC golfer of the week honors

Date:

Oct. 16—MITCHELL — Dakota Wesleyan University golf freshman Allison Meyerink was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference’s golfer of the week to end the fall season for the Tigers.

Meyerink, a freshman from Mitchell, is coming off back-to-back event victories to end the fall season. She was the champion at the Mustang Derby on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 at Whispering Creek Golf Course in Sioux City, Iowa, with Meyerink shooting 3-over-par for the two days, firing 74 and 73 for a two-day score of 147. She edged Mount Marty’s Kelsey Heath by two shots to win the 44-player tournament.

On Oct. 14 and Oct. 15, Meyerink won by one stroke over Heath at Raindance National Golf Club in Windsor, Colorado at the Battle at the Dance tournament, which was hosted by Hastings College. Meyerink shot 81-75 over the two rounds to close with the event title in a field of 51 golfers, including many GPAC players.

In 15 rounds this fall, Meyerink had five individual top-three finishes in DWU’s seven tournaments they played in. She has a scoring average of 80.47, including six rounds in the 70s and a pair of season-best 73s on the year.

Meyerink is the first GPAC golfer of the week for DWU this season and the first for the Tigers since Megan Hinker in 2022.

DWU will pick up the spring season in March at the Jackrabbit Invitational on March 10-11 in Boulder Creek, Nevada.
