Georgia takes pride in hosting NCAA championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in what it considers the mecca of the college game.
More are on the way.
The school was awarded two more championships on Wednesday.
Georgia will host the 2026 Division I men’s and women’s singles and doubles finals to go along with the team finals that it already is hosting.
The 2027 team finals will also be held in Athens, meaning Georgia will be the site for the team finals in back-to-back years.
“We’re excited for this opportunity and thankful for the great work of our event management team for their work in preparing the bid,” athletic director Josh Brooks told the Athens Banner-Herald.
Women’s gymnastics also was awarded a national regional host site for 2027 in Stegeman Coliseum. It is one of five regional sites that year.
Georgia has a long history of championship-level tennis in both the men’s and women’s programs.
The women’s tennis team, under Drake Bernstein, lost in the NCAA finals last season. The men’s team was a national power under recently retired coach Manuel Diaz.
Georgia opened a $26.7 million indoor tennis facility this spring in hopes that the six courts would make Athens more attractive as an NCAA championship site.
Georgia has hosted 33 NCAA team championships but last held the event in Athens in 2017.
Another $8.5 million was spent since then to renovate the tennis stadium with a new grandstand, lower level chair back seating, concession stands, restrooms and a new press box.
