The North Carolina Tar Heels could be just over a week away from landing their first commitment in the 2025 recruiting class.
Four-star combo guard Derek Dixon is set to make his decision on September 27th, his 18th birthday, as he will announce where he will be playing college basketball. And the race to land Dixon could be down to a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference foes.
While Dixon has a final six of Vanderbilt, Syracuse, Virginia, Pitt, Arizona, and North Carolina, it appears as if the Panthers and Tar Heels are the two favorites right now. Dixon did cancel his visit to Arizona and the Tar Heels were the program to get the last visit with that cancellation.
As we are just over 10 days away from Dixon’s decision, there hasn’t been much on a favorite aside from rumblings that UNC and Pitt are battling it out. But on Rivals, one analyst has made his prediction.
Pitt holds the lone prediction as it comes from Houston Wilson, a Recruiting & Scouting Director for various sites including Rivals. It’s the only prediction in the recruitment right now and came just a few days ago after the UNC visit.
Now, a prediction doesn’t mean it’s a guarantee. It’s just what an analyst believes is going to happen based on their reporting. Usually, the predictions from national reporters on Rivals, 247Sports and On3 do hold a lot of weight, especially if it comes from someone like Eric Bossi.
There are no predictions currently on 247Sports or On3 for Dixon.
As the countdown to decision day continues on, it will be interesting to see if a team can make a late push to land Dixon. And hopefully he ends up in Chapel Hill.
