Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti was furious with Hansi Flick and members of the Barcelona bench for what he felt were ‘ungentlemanly’ celebrations after Real Madrid lost the Clasico 4-0.
The Merengues had been unbeaten in 42 LaLiga games and won the title last season, as well as the Champions League.
However, they were outclassed at the Bernabeu this evening after wasting numerous first half chances and seeing a Kylian Mbappé goal ruled offside, then simply fell apart in the second half.
Robert Lewandowski scored twice in the space of 120 seconds, before Lamine Yamal and Raphinha completed the 4-0 rout.
It was after the fourth goal from Raphinha at the 84th minute that tension erupted on the touchline, as Flick seemed to realise some members of his bench were getting out of hand, trying to pull them back from celebrating in front of the Real Madrid technical area.
Ancelotti walked over with a warning finger in Flick’s face, telling him that this was disrespectful behaviour.
“I had an issue with the assistant, not with Flick,” Ancelotti later explained in the press conference.
“The assistant behaved in an ungentlemanly manner celebrating in front of our bench. I said that quite normally to Flick and he agreed.”
Real Madrid are now six points behind Barcelona in table.
Ancelotti is under contract with the Merengues until June 2026.
