AP Poll Top 25 College Basketball Rankings released after Week 2

Date:

The newest college basketball rankings are here as the 2024-25 AP Poll Top 25 was updated after Week 1 of the season.

There were some shakeups in the latest rankings but we also saw some teams dominate in the early slate of the season. Too early to tell to make any defining statements, but we a bit more action under our belts.

Let’s dive into the latest AP Poll Top 25 rankings after Week 1 of the season.

The Jayhawks improved to 4-0 after wins over Michigan State and Oakland this last week. The big one was the showcase event against the Spartans, winning 77-69.

Hunter Dickinson, a former Michigan man, gave MSU nightmares in this one. He had 28 points, 12 rebounds and an assist to hold off a second half surge.

UConn is 3-0 on the young season although the wins are nothing to write home about. They’re dominant, which is good. But no signature wins yet.

In their latest outing, the Huskies beat Le Moyne College 90-49. Alex Karaban finished the game with 17 points, three rebounds and two assists.

Gonzaga is 3-0 on the year following Week 2 and had a 113-54 win over UMass Lowell Friday night. Khalif Battle led the team in scoring with 21 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Next up is San Diego State Monday night before hosting Long Beach State on Wednesday to wrap up the upcoming week. They’ll get a ranked matchup against Kentucky on December 7th.

Not much action from Auburn in Week 2 other than a win over Kent State. The highlight win came over Houston earlier this month.

The Tigers improved to 3-0 by beating Kent State 79-56. North Alabama comes to town Monday night but Auburn will take on Iowa State next Monday in what could be the game of the night.

Iowa State is just 2-0 on the season, beating Kansas City last week and MS Valley the week before. So not much action on the Cyclones.

The real test will be next week against Auburn as Iowa State is seemingly only playing once a week early in the year. It’s a wait and see approach right now.

A statement win for Purdue as the Boilermakers took down Alabama 87-78 on Friday night. It doesn’t get any easier with Marquette Tuesday night on the road.

Purdue ran away in the second half against the Crimson Tide. Trey Kaufman-Renn led the way with 26 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Houston bounced back from a loss against Auburn with a 91-45 win over Louisiana-Lafayette. In the win, Terrance Arceneaux finished with 14 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Coming up next week is an intriguing slate, after Friday’s game against Hofstra. Houston gets Alabama, Notre Dame and Rutgers. Good luck.

Alabama suffered its first loss of the year to Purdue, but it was a battle. Labaron Philon led the way with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Mark Sears added 15 points but it was not enough against the power of the Big Ten. Alabama is back in action against Illinois at home on Wednesday and will take on ranked foes Houston and Rutgers next week.

Last time out, Kentucky knocked off Duke 77-72 in an epic finish last Tuesday. Andrew Carr finished the game with 17 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Now at 4-0, Kentucky is rolling ahead of some more non-conference games. The Wildcats will get a Top 10 opponent in Gonzaga in early December for another big test.

UNC dominated American, 107-55, on Friday. The big test will be Alabama on December 4th after some non-conference tilts against Hawaii and Dayton.

UNC’s lone loss early in the year was against Kansas, so nothing to freak out about. We’ll see how this team keeps developing.
