Arkansas State Police capture internationally wanted El Salvadorian gang member

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – What started as a routine traffic stop ended with Arkansas State Police troopers capturing a man who they said was an internationally wanted gang member.

ASO officials said troopers captured 42-year-old Elias Avila Bustillo of El Salvador as a result of the stop. They said Bustillo is wanted in El Salvador for illegal gang associations and was in the United States illegally, they said.

ASP officials said the traffic stop was at 9 p.m. Nov. 6 on Interstate 40 in North Little Rock near the 160 Mile Marker.

Officials said Bustillow was a passenger in the car and ran away into a nearby field. Troopers tracked the man as additional troopers arrived using ASP Air Support and a K9 unit from the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

Officials said they found Bustillow after an hour of searching.

Troopers took Bustillo to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office in Little Rock, officials said, adding that he remains in the custody of U.S. Homeland Security Investigations.

Officials said Bustillo is the subject of an Interpol Red Notice, an international notice for worldwide law enforcement to locate and arrest him.
