Arkansas State women’s basketball tips off 2024 preseason practice

Date:

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Arkansas State women’s basketball is in their opening week of preseason practice.

New is the theme for the scarlet and black. There’s 9 newcomers on the roster, portal arrivals from the Sun Belt, the AAC, the SWAC, and JUCO to name a few.

“I love all of these new faces,” said Red Wolves head coach Destinee Rogers. “It’s been great getting to know every single one of them, seeing how they mesh on the court. I haven’t been around a team that the chemistry has bonded so quickly. Now obviously it’s a process, and we still have a long way to go. We’re just getting started. But I really like what I’m seeing. Really like the depth that we have. I think we addressed that issue where we have multiple people at each position that can go. So it’s been really fun trying to put that total puzzle together. But they work hard every single day and they compete.”

Rogers likes how the Red Wolves are adjusting to a new approach.

“One thing you’re going to notice different is we’re going to press a ton,” Rogers said. “We’re going to press on every make. I love it, we have the athletes to do that. So we want to create a lot of offense through our defense. So being able to implement that press while also being able to be a little more aggressive in our half court man to man defense.”
