After a slow start, things have picked for Barcelona loanee Clement Lenglet at Atletico Madrid, with the Frenchman emerging as one of their most impressive performers in recent weeks.
Lenglet signed for the Rojiblancos on a season-long loan deal with no buy option included in the agreement.
The former Sevilla man struggled to break into Diego Simeone’s side in the early parts of the season, but of late, has made the most of his chances and become a regular starter.
As such, Atletico Madrid are now weighing up the possibility of signing Lenglet on a permanent transfer in the summer.
Atletico to offer €8-10 million
In fact, according to journalist Ruben Uria, as relayed by SPORT, the Atletico Madrid management has already opened discussions with Barcelona, and all parties are interested in making the deal happen.
Although Lenglet’s loan was not initially met with great excitement by the Colchoneros’ fans and staff, his consistent performances and reliability at the back have won over the club’s hierarchy and supporters alike.
The Atletico Madrid board has not yet made a formal offer, but their intention is to propose a transfer fee between €8 million and 10 million.
Lenglet himself is happy with the prospect of continuing his career at the Metropolitano, where he has made 13 appearances thus far, even scoring a couple of goals.
Meanwhile, Atletico president Enrique Cerezo, in a recent interview with SPORT, expressed his satisfaction with Lenglet’s performances, stating: “We would love for him to stay with us.”
Recent reports had suggested that Barcelona would seek a fee of around €15 million for Lenglet.
But considering that he still has two years on his contract with a high salary, they would likely accept the €8-10 million that Atletico offer to offload the 29-year-old permanently.
