As Austin becomes the place to be, it might also become the place to avoid driving in. Which roads will be closed, and which areas should be avoided?

Events in Austin this weekend
So much to do, so little time! Austin is hosting several sporting events this weekend, including an international racing event. And, as the heat temporarily recedes from the 90s, more people are likely to participate in the outdoor festivities.

This weekend’s events will prompt the following road closures, as reported by Austin Mobility News:
Formula One United States Grand Prix
Those attending the F1 race at Circuit of the Americas have a few options for getting there, according to Austin Mobility News. They can take a shuttle from Waterloo Park downtown or the Travis County Exposition Center in East Austin, or purchase a parking pass to drive. The shuttles will affect traffic in the area around Waterloo Park.
Ride-hailing services such as Uber and Lyft will operate out of the racetrack’s McAngus parking lot, and a complimentary tram will ferry attendees from McAngus to the circuit’s Grand Plaza. Ride-hailing service vehicles will not be allowed on COTA Boulevard.

Expect delays and street closures downtown near Waterloo Park daily through Sunday, 5 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., unless noted otherwise:

Texas Longhorns vs. Georgia Bulldogs
This weekend’s UT football game is a big one and is expected to draw a huge crowd. Traffic around Royal-Memorial Stadium will be heavily congested, and alternative transportation is recommended. Several streets in the area will be either completely or partially closed Saturday morning.

Livestrong Challenge, 5K/10K
Several roads will be closed at various times Saturday through Sunday evening for the Livestrong Challenge and 5K/10K race. Bicyclists will begin downtown for the Livestrong Challenge, while runners and walkers will participate in a 5K or 10K around Lady Bird Lake. Times of the closures vary.
