Erling Haaland has long been a subject of desire at FC Barcelona.
Joan Laporta, after being elected as club president, explored the possibility of a deal for the Norwegian in 2022 but the financial situation did not allow for it even as the striker signed for Manchester City.
Under the current economic circumstances, a move for Haaland is not feasible, but Barça are not closing the doors on a future move for the goal machine.
Man City could launch move for Haaland
Indeed, according to SPORT, Barcelona could consider making a move for Erling Haaland in the future even as he closes in on a new contract at Manchester City.
Haaland, whose current deal with the English champions runs until 2027, is understood to be inching closer to a new contract.
His agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has been in talks with the Cityzens over the same for a while now and an agreement could be on the horizon.
While Haaland is close to renewing, he is not closing the doors on an exit by insisting on the insertion of a release clause in his contract.
This could provide clubs interested in him, such as Real Madrid and PSG, with an opportunity to secure his services from Man City as early as next year, especially if Pep Guardiola leaves the Etihad.
Barcelona, too, could throw their hat in the ring in that case, provided the Nike agreement is complete and the club are back to the 1:1 Fair Play rule.
With the presidential elections looming in 2026, a move for Haaland is seen as a major move from Laporta & co. which could sway the tide in his favour. Any move though is subject to the club returning to the 1:1 rule.
