Joshua Kimmich has emerged as one of the most sought-after players heading into the summer transfer market of 2025.
The German midfielder’s contract with Bayern Munich is set to expire at the end of the season, drawing interest from several clubs, including FC Barcelona.
The breakout performances of Marc Casado and Marc Bernal, although the latter is facing a long injury layoff, have eased Barça’s concerns in midfield, Kimmich remains on the agenda as he can operate at right-back as well and will be available for free.
Kimmich considering Bayern Munich renewal
Initially, it seemed Kimmich was poised to leave Bayern Munich after a decade with the club, but recent developments suggest a dramatic change in his plans.
Indeed, according to German newspaper BILD (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Kimmich is reconsidering his decision to depart after Bayern Munich presented him with an improved contract offer along with the captain’s armband for the future.
The 29-year-old midfielder, who also plays as a right-back, is regarded as a crucial asset for the Bavarian giants’ new head coach, Vincent Kompany, who has been advocating for the club to do everything possible to retain him.
So far this season, Kimmich has been a mainstay in the Bayern Munich lineup, playing every minute of the nine matches he has participated in, which includes six Bundesliga games, two Champions League fixtures, and one DFB-Pokal match.
Only last month, Bayern Munich director Max Eberl insisted that the club want to hold on to Kimmich and make him the face of the project and the future captain.
“We need Joshua Kimmich to be a face of the project,” Eberl said in an interview.
“His performances, willingness, heart… he is predestined for that. He should be the captain of Bayern Munich of the future.”
With Kimmich now considering signing the dotted line with Bayern Munich, Barça may well be dealt a blow in their transfer plans.
