In a surprising turn of events, Barcelona’s interest in Bayern Munich left-back and Real Madrid target Alphonso Davies has come to light earlier today.
The Canadian international, whose contract with the German giants expires on June 30, has emerged as a target for the Catalan club for the summer of 2025.
Deco already met with Davies’ agents
Reports suggested that there has already been some dialogue between Barcelona and Davies’ camp to understand the defender’s situation and demands.
Building on that, Jijantes FC reports that the Blaugrana sporting director Deco, a long-time admirer of Davies, held an extensive meeting with the player’s agent, Nedal Huoseh, at a Barcelona hotel on February 15.
The encounter between Deco and Huoseh was marked by attempts at discretion with the latter reportedly requesting a private room to avoid prying eyes.
The report further reveals that Davies’ agent had met with Real Madrid officials the previous day before holding talks with Deco.
Davies, who seemed close to joining Real Madrid last summer, opted to continue at Bayern Munich for another season.
However, with negotiations for a new contract with the Bavarians stalling, Barcelona see an opportunity to secure the services of one of the world’s most dynamic full-backs.
While Barcelona’s interest in Davies is clear, the club are proceeding cautiously. Any potential move for the Real Madrid target will be thoroughly evaluated from both sporting and economic perspectives, with manager Hansi Flick’s approval being crucial.
The defender’s economic demands could also be a concern given the delicate situation that Barcelona are in financially. Either way, the interest in Davies appears to be genuine and it will be interesting to see how things develop.
