Barcelona youngster knocks on Hansi Flick’s doors after strong international displays

Pablo Torre continues to fight for a place in Hansi Flick’s plans at Barcelona.

The former Racing Santander midfield talent, who spent last season on loan at Girona, was a prominent figure during Barcelona’s pre-season tour under the new coach. However, he has struggled to maintain that prominence since the official competition began.

Performances for Spain U21 could open the doors

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Torre’s performances with the Spain U21 national team in the recent international break could open the doors for him.

Torre’s fortunes took a positive turn during the international break with the Spanish U21 national team. Initially not called up by coach Santi Denia for the Euro U21 qualifying matches, he was brought in as a replacement for the injured Fermin Lopez.

This change proved to be more than just a stopgap measure, as the Cantabrian midfielder played a crucial role in Spain’s victories against Scotland (1-2) and Hungary (0-1).

In both matches, Torre started in the attacking midfield position, serving as a link between the midfield and striker Samu Omorodion.

Against Scotland, he provided an assist for Dean Huijsen’s goal. In the match vs Hungary, Torre showcased his versatility, alternating between a deeper role where he collected the ball in his own half, and a more advanced position where he threaded through passes and attempted long-range shots.

These performances with the U21 team have demonstrated Torre’s potential and versatility. As Barcelona enters a busy period following the international break, with a high number of matches scheduled, the 21-year-old could see increased playing time.

This congested fixture list may provide the young midfielder with the opportunity to prove his worth to Flick, who blocked the youngster’s loan exit in the summer, and cement his place in the Barcelona squad.

Torre’s situation at Barça remains one to watch. While he has shown promise in pre-season and with the national team, he still faces stiff competition for playing time in a talented Barcelona midfield.

The coming weeks could be crucial for Torre as he seeks to translate his international form into regular appearances for the Catalan giants.
