Eric Dudley is no longer coaching the Burlington Christian Academy boys’ basketball team.
Dudley coached the Royals for five seasons, including a program breakthrough during the past season.
Dudley confirmed that he won’t be coaching the team. He didn’t respond to additional inquiries. He remains a teacher at the school.
Last season’s 22-7 mark included an upset of three-time reigning state champion The Burlington School in the quarterfinals of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association state playoffs. That helped the Royals to the deepest postseason run in program history.
Dudley’s teams compiled a 73-44 overall record with four consecutive winning seasons.
With an array of potential returning players, the coming season might shape up as special. Word of Dudley’s exit from the coaching position began to surface a couple of weeks ago. He reportedly had handled the typical summer basketball workouts.
After BCA’s season ended last season, Dudley attended postseason games involving public schools. Coaches from private schools often evaluate or recruit players from area schools.
BCA athletics director Michael Pinelli said last week that the interview process for a new coach had started.
