The Ajit Agarkar-headed selection committee announced the squad for the first Test against Bangladesh on Sunday (September 8). Virat Kohli made his return to the team along with Rishabh Pant while a few players were dropped. The players who have been named in the Test squad will not play the second round of the Duleep Trophy.
As the BCCI announced the squad for the Bangladesh Test match, they also sent delightful news to Rinku Singh. With the Test-bound players leaving their respective Duleep Trophy squads, Rinku has been called into India B.
The left-handed batsman has played for India A and was shockingly ignored for a place in the original squads. He is now set to represent India B. It also means that Rinku will not feature in the UP T20 league.
“My job is to work hard, and I am extremely delighted to have received the call for Duleep Trophy. When the teams were initially announced, I was not selected. I wasn’t disheartened because my responsibility is to put in the hard work which I am doing. Today, I feel even more elated as I am here to represent India B in the prestigious Duleep Trophy,” Rinku told TOI.
“As a captain, my team is at the pinnacle of the points table in UP T20 league. Now, the onus is on Madhav Kaushik’s shoulders to steer the team to victory. My experience in UP T20 League has been phenomenal.”
Rinku has a solid average of 54.70 in first-class cricket. The left-handed batsman has scored 3173 runs in 47 matches. Rinku’s tally includes 7 centuries and 20 half-centuries.
