President Joe Biden has tested negative for COVID-19 and is returning to the White House.
The president has been holed up in Delaware since July 17, when he cut a trip to Las Vegas short due to a positive COVID-19 test. He has not been seen publicly since that date, though his personal physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, has issued daily updates that say he is getting better.
“The president’s symptoms have resolved,” reads O’Connor’s latest letter. “Over the course of his infection, he never manifested a fever, and his vital signs remained normal, to include pulse oximetry. His lungs remained clear.”
Even when he resigned from his presidential campaign Sunday, Biden was not seen and did not release a photo of himself signing the letter containing the announcement. He then called into Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign rally in Wilmington on Monday.
Biden is expected to walk into the White House later this afternoon, ending a nearly weeklong stint away from public view.

As of right now, the plan is for Biden to remain in office through the end of his term at noon on Jan. 20, 2025.
“The president continues to perform all of his presidential duties,” O’Connor’s letter reads. “As always, I will continue to keep your office updated with any changes in his condition or treatment plan.”
