The Indian cricket team have been hit with a major blow as skipper Rohit Sharma might end up missing oen of the first two Tests of the all-important Test series against Australia next month. The two-time World Test Championship (WTC) runner’s-up are set to play a blockbuster five-match Test series down under as they aim to win the Border Gavaskasr Trophy (BGT) for the fifth time in a row.
According to a report by Press Trust of India (PTI), the Indian captain could be absent for either of the first or second Test match. It is believed that the 37-year-old has already informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about his potential absence.
“There isn’t any complete clarity about the situation. It is understood that Rohit has intimated to the BCCI that there is a possibility that due to a pressing personal matter, he might have to skip one of the two Tests at the beginning of the series,” a BCCI source told PTI on the conditions of anonymity
“In case, the personal issue is sorted before the start of the series, he might play all five Tests. We will get to know more in coming days,” the BCCI source added.
Who Will Replace Rohit Sharma?
The published report states that Abhimanyu Easwaran could get a call-up to the squad and be Rohit’s cover. Although both Shubman Gill and KL Rahul have opened the innings before for Team India. Meanwhile, there is no clarity on who will lead India after they did not name a vice-captain for the Bangladesh series.

India are set to play five Test matches in Australia starting from November 22 in Perth. Later, the teams will fly to Adelaide for the second Test from December 6 which will be a pink-ball contest. Rohit is expected to miss one of these two Test matches. The remaining three games will take place in Brisbane (Dec 14-18), Melbourne (Dec 26-30), and Sydney (Jan 3-7).
