BIZARRE Darwin Nunez Liverpool transfer claim raises MAJOR questions

Liverpool look like a very strong defensive unit under Arne Slot but now a new defender could be making his way to Anfield who is apparently admired by Darwin Nunez.

The Reds’ defence has looked like one of the strongest in Europe under Slot and this is thanks in part to impressive performances by Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

After keeping three consecutive clean sheets to start the season, Liverpool have gone on to dominate games and are giving up very few chances in the process.

It isn’t just the Reds’ central defenders who have looked impressive this campaign though, with Trent Alexander-Arnold looking improved defensively and Slot getting the credit for this improvement.

Are Liverpool monitoring Clarens Culma Mejia?

Despite their strong start to the season, Liverpool are always looking to improve the squad and now are interested in signing Colombian sensation Clarens Culma Mejia according to Football Insider.

The 20-year-old defender lines up for Atletico Nacional according to the report and is capable of playing at both centre-back and on the left side of the defence.

The report also claims that Darwin Nunez is highly impressed with the defender. That’s a confusing one, admittedly, as we’re not sure why Nunez would keep up with Colombian football like that – but it’s the claim here.

Brighton are also reportedly monitoring the prospect and a move could happen as early as January.

Why this is a bizarre rumour

Although the Reds’ defence has looked great so far this season, the future of some of Liverpool’s defenders is uncertain.

Captain Van Dijk is out of contract at the end of the current season and as things stand will be leaving Anfield for free in June.

Versatile defender Joe Gomez is also facing an uncertain future at the club after a turbulent summer which saw him constantly linked with moves away.

Based on all of that it would make sense to go for Culma since he is supposedly a defender. However, this is where things get interesting.

We mentioned how it’s quite bizarre that the report claims Nunez recommended a Colombian wonderkid to Liverpool.

Well, what is even stranger is that Culma is not listed on Atletico Nacional’s official website in either the first team or U20 squad.

The last traces of him at Nacional date back to 2022, when the club posted him doing a workout.

If we look at what could be his Instagram account that Culma once did play for Atletico Nacional but he is lining up in the colours of Independiente Santa Fe which raises a lot of questions about Football Insider’s report.

Is this the Culma the report talks about? If it’s not, why can there be no traces of him found on Atletico Nacional’s official website? Unfortunately, we don’t have the answers.
