Jean-Paul Boetius has decided not to extend his trial period at SC Heerenveen, the Frisians confirmed on their official channels. The thirty-year-old midfielder has been training with Robin van Persie’s side since the end of October.
Last week Boetius played seventy minutes in a friendly match against PEC Zwolle. Heerenveen gave the ex-Feyenoord, FSV Mainz 05, and Hertha BSC man the chance to continue until the winter break, with the aim of earning a contract. However, Boetius has respectfully turned this down.
“Jean-Paul has made a professional impression,” Van Persie responded.
“It was great to see him playing minutes again last week, and his experience and positive attitude were appreciated by everyone. Although we would have liked to extend his trial period, we respect his decision not to continue.”
Boetius continues his search for a new club. The single-time Oranje international has been without a club since the summer of 2023. His absence from football, of course, came after he beat testicular cancer.
