Bundesliga Preview | Union Berlin vs Borussia Dortmund – BVB look to make it three wins in a row

Borussia Dortmund head to the capital on Saturday to take on Union Berlin as they look to pick up their third Bundesliga win in a row.

The hosts are currently in ninth place after five games with eight points whilst Dortmund are in fifth place with ten points, and are three points behind the league leaders Bayern Munich.

Union Berlin’s most recent match saw them lose 1-0 to Borussia Mönchengladbach, a game in which Bo Svensson’s side struggled to create any chances and failed to gain much possession of the ball throughout.

However, this was his side’s first loss in seven games and they now have the second-best defensive record in the division with just three goals conceded, bettered only by RB Leipzig.

At the other end of the pitch is where the improvement must come for Union as they have scored just four goals which is the joint fewest in the league.

As for Borussia Dortmund, they enjoyed an emphatic victory over Celtic recently in the Champions League where they put seven goals past the Scottish Champions.

Also in their recent league match, Nuri Şahin’s side scored four as they defeated Bochum 4-2 to recover well after their 5-1 loss to Stuttgart the week before.

Dortmund have now scored 24 times and have conceded eight goals in all competitions this season.

Şahin has expressed his opinion on Union Berlin and what to expect.

On the whole, it is an unpleasant opponent that awaits us there.”

Union Berlin and Borussia Dortmund Team News

Union Berlin have been without goalkeeper Yannic Stein, and he will remain out until late October due to a shoulder injury. Ivan Prtajin and Josip Juranović are likely to return around the middle of this month while Kevin Volland remains a doubt due to a knee injury.

Dortmund were hit by some unfortunate injury news today as it has been confirmed that Karim Adeyemi, Julien Duranville and Giovanni Reyna will all be missing for the coming weeks.

Adeyemi and Duranville are expected to be available again after the international break in November while Reyna suffered a setback with his injury meaning he is likely to return around the same time as the duo.

Donyell Malen missed the recent Champions League match against Celtic but has returned to training today.
