Charlie Woods: How did Tiger Woods’ son finish at Florida golf state championship?

Date:

Charlie Woods, son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, helped move his team into contention on the final day of the Class 1A Florida high school state championship on Wednesday at Mission Resort Inn + Club in Howey-in-the-Hills.

Woods, a sophomore with Benjamin’s boys golf team, shot 73 (1-over) to close the tournament with a two-day total of 151 (7-over) overall.

He made five birdies and six bogeys in a round that saw Woods’ score fluctuate from 2-under par to 2-over par in the span of a few holes. Woods birdied his final hole of the tournament.

“Much better. He gets on a roll, he can make three, four, five in a row,” said Benjamin boys golf head coach Toby Harbeck. “This golf course dictates where you’ve got to hit it. You’ve got to king of take your medicine.

“There are some holes out here that you cannot birdie. As aggressive as he is, it paid off. He played well today, very well today.”

Defending state champion Benjamin golf, composed of Woods and teammates Pavel Tsar, Andrew Tsar, Brooks Colton, and Jake Valentine, ended the first day in a three-way tie for 9th place with Lake Mary Prep and Lake Highland Prep.

Benjamin improved significantly on the second day, however, and was 4-over par as a team for the round. The Bucs soared up the leaderboard while other teams faltered and ultimately ended the tournament as state runner-up, nine shots back of rival Oxbridge Academy.

Senior Pavel Tsar posted the best score for Benjamin in the second at even-par. Valentine also shot 1-over while Colton was 2-over par.
