Coldwater Recap: Coldwater soccer nips Northwest; Coldwater tennis ties with Sturgis

JACKSON – The Coldwater Cardinal varsity soccer team dominated the time of possession and the shot count on Thursday’s trip to Jackson Northwest as the two teams met on the pitch for Interstate 8 conference action.

Despite out shooting the Mounties 20-3 throughout the game things were still remarkably close throughout the game, as the Cardinals went on to take the 1-0 win.

Coldwater’s lone goal came early in the contest as Dawood Gabry continued his scoring ways, putting in a shot past the Mounties goalkeeper just two minutes into the contest, on an assist from Nasser Abdullah.

Franky Ramos made three saves in goal before being replaced by Alex Martinez late in the contest due to injury.

With the win Coldwater improves to 2-0 in the Interstate 8 and 6-4-1 overall.

The junior varsity team rolled past Northwest on Thursday, winning by the 8-0 mercy rule.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Sturgis for the annual Cultural Understanding game versus the Trojans

Coldwater tennis ties Sturgis in non-conference battle

STURGIS – The Coldwater Cardinal tennis team battled their way to a hard fought 4-4 tie with Sturgis on Thursday, with Coldwater controlling most of the doubles matches and Sturgis leading the way in singles.

Coldwater took three of the four doubles flights and the No. 4 singles flight to pull out the tie.

Taking wins for Coldwater were the No.1 doubles team of Cayden Wood and Tucker Wischmeyer who won by scores of 6-4 and 6-1; the number three doubles team of Kush Patel and Caden Birts who won by scores of 6-4 and 6-2; and the No. 4 doubles team of Anthony Stevens and Clayten Bustos who won by scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

Taking a win in the singles flight was Evan Poradzisz who won by scores of 6-3 and 6-3.

Also competing for Coldwater was Claudel Wischmeyer at No. 1 singles; Logun Fisher at No. 2 singles; Joe Searls at No. 3 singles; and the doubles team of Logan Kirk and Gabe McCowan who lost in straight sets.

In junior varsity action Krish Patel and Jordan Thornburg won both singles matches.

Coldwater tennis will be back in action Saturday when they host a quad meet at Heritage Park.
