Disneyland Shutting Down Yet Another Classic Attraction by 2025

Date:

Disneyland Resort is planning to shutter yet another classic attraction in the coming months to make room for an expanding theme park located at Disney’s campus in Anaheim, Calif.

The Red Car Trolley, which was first launched at Disney California Adventure in 2012, is expected to close “in early 2025,” Disney officials told Attractions Magazine on Monday, Aug. 26. The reason behind the attraction’s impending closure was the planned expansion of the Avengers Campus, the construction for which is also expected to begin early next year.

The Red Car Trolley barn will need to be removed to accommodate the construction, Disney’s statement to the theme park magazine said. Though a specific shutdown date for the Red Car Trolley was not provided, the statement said those details would be available in the coming months. Disney officials also confirmed the Red Car Trolley’s scheduled end in statements shared with several Los Angeles-based media outlets.

Disneyland Resort has two new attractions in mind that it intends to deliver to fans soon, as officials explained during a fan event earlier this month. The Avengers-themed attractions, called Avengers: Infinity Defense and Stark Fight Lab, are expected to offer park visitors the opportunity to explore parts of the Marvel Universe and try some superhero tools for themselves, according to the Los Angeles-based news station KTLA.

While the Avengers park expansion plans reflect Disney’s more recent entertainment focus, the Red Car Trolley represented Southern California’s history. The bright red cars were styled after the Pacific Electric Railway trolleys, which provided local transportation from the 1880s through the early 1960s.

This impending closure follows similar moves by Disney to pave the way for new attractions—and not just at Disneyland Resort. In Florida, Disney is soon expected to close a handful of attractions in its Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom parks to make room for new rides and fan experiences, according to Attractions Magazine.
