Hurricane Milton had a big impact on Florida, including this: the Boozer twins, Cameron and Cayden, pushed their commitment date back from Thursday to Friday.
As you may know, they are down to Duke and Miami. No one has had a real sense of what they’re going to do, which is somewhat unusual.
However, the Crystal Ball now has four picks for Duke for the twins (actually seven between them – four for Cameron and three for Cayden).
Still, that’s no guarantee. People thought that Harrison Barnes was likely to pick Duke and that Brandon Ingram was set for Kansas.
So you never really know until you do which is why we recommend not getting too invested until someone commits.
The bigger buzz is over Cameron, who is expected to go first or second in the NBA Draft after his freshman year, but we love – love, love, love – the way Cayden runs a team. He’s a very heady point guard and you just can’t put a price on a wicked smart point guard. For a few examples, think about Tyus Jones, Bobby Hurley and Jon Scheyer, who could teach Cayden a lot.
And while it would be wonderful if Duke gets them, as Carlos’s kids, they’re part of the family. If they choose Miami, we’ll still pull for them when they’re not playing Duke.
We’d have to think about this a bit more to be sure, but if the Boozers do come to Durham, they’d be the second and third sons at Duke whose fathers won national championships. Carlos won a title with the Blue Devils in 2001 and Nolan Smith’s dad won one with Louisville in 1980. They’d also be the second and third Duke players with fathers who played in the Final Four. The other set?
Jay and Clay Buckley.
