MASON — The Sturgis tennis team played to sixth place at the Bulldog Invitational hosted by Mason on Saturday. The Trojans finished with a team score of 10, Battle Creek Lakeview was first with 19 followed by Gull Lake and Mason with 16 each, Hudsonville Unity Christian with 14 and DeWitt with 13.
In the first singles flight, George Ebert finished with a perfect 3-0 record on the day and won first place.
Ebert picked up wins over Jackson Northwest 6-1, 6-0; Lakeview 6-3, 6-0 and eventually Henry Kamman of Gull Lake in the finals at 6-3, 6-4.

Every other Sturgis flight picked up one point for the Trojans for the day. Wyatt Miller at second singles, Carter Oswald at third singles and Brody Currier at fourth singles each won one match.
In doubles action, the teams of Alex Cypher and Andrew Scheske (first doubles), Cooper and Easton Barkby (second doubles), Brayden Bibb and Dominic Brown (third doubles) and the duo of Jonathan Bickle and Nixson Orpilla (fourth doubles) each won once.
On Thursday, the Trojans played to a 4-4 tie with Coldwater.
Ebert won his match over Claudel Wishmeyer at first singles with a 6-0, 6-0 score.
Sturgis won at second and third singles with Miller and Oswald. Currier was upended at fourth singles.
The Barkby brothers won their match at second doubles over Logan Kirk and Gave McCowan 6-2, 6-3.
The first doubles team of Scheske and Logan White, the third doubles team of Bibb and Brown and the fourth doubles team of Bidde and Orpilla each played and fell in tough matches.
