Oxford United have re-signed Kyle Edwards on a short-term contract.

Edwards spent last season with Oxford, firstly on loan from Ipswich Town and then on a deal until the end of the campaign.

The 26-year-old midfielder was released following the U’s promotion to the Championship, but he returns as a free agent.

Edwards played six times last season and scored two goals but a hamstring injury ended his season prematurely.

He had been training with Des Buckingham’s side and has done enough to prove his fitness.

“It was my ambition all summer to fight my way back and to show that I could be part of the team again, so when the club came to me with this contract it was a no-brainer,” Edwards told the club’s website.

Edwards is the 15th player to sign for Oxford in a busy summer after victory in the League One play-off final.

They are ninth in the Championship with two wins from their opening four games.
