Manchester United are reportedly eyeing former Juventus coach Max Allegri as Erik ten Hag’s potential replacement after their dismal start to the season continued with a 3-0 home defeat against Tottenham.
According to Caughtoffside.com, pressure on ten Hag is mounting and the Red Devils’ upcoming run of games will be decisive for the Dutch manager’s future, as some prominent figures at the club believe Allegri could be the right profile to take over.
Manchester United have picked up as few as seven points from their opening six Premier League games and are already eight points behind leaders Liverpool, also having failed to win their Europa League debut against FC Twente, which ended 1-1.
Manchester United eye Allegri as possible replacement for ten Hag
Currently without a team after he was fired by Juventus at the end of last season, Allegri could be on Manchester United’s list to replace ten Hag if the Dutch manager fails to turn the tide after his side’s poor start to the season.
The Red Devils’ latest 3-0 home defeat against Tottenham cast further doubts on ten Hag and, as much as his position is still considered safe at the moment, the club are exploring alternative options in case results don’t improve soon.
Manchester United prepare to play Porto in the Europa League before facing Aston Villa and Brentford in the Premier League.
Caughtoffside.com reported that Allegri is a potential candidate that the club are keeping an eye on, although no concrete talks have taken place until now.
Allegri ended his second stint at Juventus in May 2024, as he was fired by the Bianconeri in the wake of his side’s win in the Coppa Italia final, which saw him lose his temper at the end of a season full of tension.
However, with a proven track of wins, which includes six Serie A titles with Milan and Juventus, three Italian Supercups and five Coppa Italia trophies, he would be reportedly considered an ideal profile to take over at Old Trafford in an attempt to restore Manchester United’s winning tradition.
