Cesc Fabregas is taking inspiration from two Serie A managers for his coaching career and believes Napoli will be involved in the title fight until the end, as his former boss Antonio Conte knows ‘how to win’.
Fabregas became a coach in 2023 when he took charge of Como Primavera side, after retiring from professional football at the end of a season played in Serie B with the same club.
He has since taken over the senior team and steered them to Serie A, racking up eight points from their first seven matches in the top tier. After a struggling start, his side has shown glimpses of brilliant football, and he admitted that he draws inspiration from two colleagues in his league whose work left him impressed.
Fabregas draws inspiration from Inzaghi and Thiago Motta
“I’m just at the beginning of my coaching career. I feel good, but I still have a lot to learn,” Fabregas told Sportmediaset in an interview, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.
“If I had to take inspiration from my colleagues, I’m impressed by Inzaghi, who can give life to an incredible anarchy with his 3-5-2, making it possible with great work.
“On the other hand, I can’t help but mention Thiago Motta, whose structure is bringing modern ideas to Italian football thanks to offensive raids from centre-backs.”
The Como coach also commented on the fight for the Serie A title, admitting to still see Inter as ‘the strongest’ team, although they’ll need to face new competition this season.
“It’s still early but I think Inter are still the strongest team, even because you could see game by game [last season] that it would’ve been quite easy for them to win the title.
“Obviously Antonio Conte’s Napoli will be up there too, he knows how to win a Scudetto and a Premier League. As for the other teams, we’ll see.”
Fabregas played under Conte at Chelsea, in a side that secured the Premier League title in the 2016-2017 season, when he played 29 league games and scored five goals.
