Fast-bowler Mohammed Siraj takes charge as DSP in Telangana – Times of India

Date:

NEW DELHI: Indian men’s cricket team player Mohammed Siraj on Saturday officially took charge as deputy superindent of Police (DSP) of Telangana.
Siraj assumed office at the Telangana director general of police (DGP) office, in the presence of Telangana DGP Jitender, along with other high-ranking officials.
Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy announced in July a residential plot and a government job for Siraj when the latter met him after India’s T20 World Cup victory in Barbados.Revanth Reddy congratulated Siraj “for displaying his amazing talent in international cricket”.

During a recent state assembly session, the chief minister highlighted Siraj’s achievements and his role in India’s T20 World Cup triumph. He said that the Group-I job offered to the international cricketer would allow him direct entry to high-ranking positions such as deputy superintendent of police if he decides to join the police force.
Despite Siraj not meeting the educational qualifications for the Group-I job, the Cabinet granted him an exemption as part of their efforts to support and encourage sportspersons. “For a Group-I job, the required educational qualification is a degree. Siraj has passed intermediate (12th class) but we have given the exemption to provide him the Group-I job,” the CM said.
Siraj was last seen in action during the two-match Test series against Bangladesh last month, where he took four wickets to help India in a 2-0 clean sweep.
In 89 outings across formats for India so far, Mohammed Siraj has taken 163 wickets with an average of 27.57. He made his international debut vs New Zealand at Rajkot on November 04, 2017.
