Bangladesh heave a sigh of relief as pace-bowling all-rounder Tanzim Sakib has been cleared to play competitive cricket after passing a fitness test on Monday.

The right-arm pacer, considered an integral part of Bangladesh’s white-ball setup, missed the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Afghanistan due to injury.

Tanzim experienced neck stiffness during warm-ups ahead of a National Cricket League match, Bangladesh’s premier first-class tournament, where he represented Sylhet Division.

“He passed the fitness test,” a member of the national selection panel confirmed to Cricbuzz on Monday.

“It’s quite a relief for us considering he is an integral part of our white-ball setup,” the selector said. “We missed him in the ODI series against Afghanistan, but at the same time, the other pace bowlers performed well, so the competition is quite stiff at the moment. But I know he [Tanzim] is a fighter and will give his best to reclaim his spot,” he added.

After the two Tests against West Indies, Bangladesh will play three ODIs and three T20Is against the hosts.

The clearance from the BCB medical team has also paved the way for Tanzim to participate in the inaugural edition of the Global Super League in Guyana, starting on November 27. The five-team competition will feature the Caribbean Premier League’s Guyana Amazon Warriors, Pakistan Super League’s Lahore Qalandars, England’s Hampshire, New Zealand’s Victoria, and Bangladesh’s Rangpur Riders. Tanzim has been picked by the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the T20 tournament.
