Former DeKalb substitute teacher pleads guilty to engaging in sex act with student

DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A former DeKalb County substitute teacher has taken a plea deal after pleading guilty to charges of engaging in a sex act with a student in February.

Court documents show that Stephanie Woods, of Henagar, pleaded guilty to one count of a school employee engaging in a sex act with a student on Oct. 7. Woods had faced other sex charges in connection with the case but those were dismissed as part of her plea agreement.

According to court documents, Woods was sentenced to 10 years in prison split to serve two years with the Alabama Department of Corrections. After her time in ADOC, Woods is sentenced to serve a five-year probation. Woods’ plea agreement also said she is required to register as a sex offender in the state.

Court documents said Woods is required to report to begin serving her sentence on Oct. 21.

Woods was originally arrested on February 9, 2024, after the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said they received a complaint about a substitute teacher possibly having inappropriate contact with a student
