Barcelona’s long list of injuries has forced Hansi Flick to call up and rely on academy talents more than ever before.
As part of his squad to face Getafe midweek, the German tactician called up as many as eight players from the subsidiary team.
Those called up included Hector Fort, Ander Astralaga, Gerard Martin, Sergi Dominguez, Andres Cuenca, Aron Yaakobishvili, Guille Fernandez and Toni Fernandez.
Looking ahead to tomorrow’s game against Osasuna, the manager may well require all eight stars on the bench once more. However, some of them may have to perform double duty for the first and subsidiary sides.
Four players called up
As revealed earlier today, Barça Atletic manager Albert Sanchez has announced the names of Yaakobishvili, Andres Cuenca, Toni and Guille Fernandez on his squad to face Tarazona later today.
Given that all four did not participate vs Getafe, they will be fresh and raring for the B team and are expected to participate on the night.
They have already trained under Sanchez as of earlier today, but that does not exempt them from being part of Hansi Flick’s plans tomorrow as revealed by SPORT.
All four players will thus rest in Tarazona after tonight’s game and travel by car on Saturday morning to reach Pamplona where they will link up with Flick. After all, the distance between the two cities is under an hour by road.
Given the hectic schedule, it is safe to say that the German tactician will not ask too much of the four players who travel for the double shift.
As has been the case over the past two games, they will only serve as reserve players should any unexpected situation arise.
