Kentucky women’s basketball defeated Northern Kentucky, 70-41, on Thursday night to move to 2-0 to start their season.
Similar to the men’s team, having a new head coach in Kenny Brooks has been the breath of fresh air the entire fanbase needed following the firing of Kyra Elzy.
In just a short amount of time, Brooks has made an impression on the team with his approach to defense. The Lady Wildcats were stellar on Thursday night, holding Northern Kentucky to 26% shooting from the floor and just 16% from behind the arc. They also blocked 16 shots and forced 10 turnovers.
While the Lady Wildcats weren’t incredibly efficient on the offensive end, either, playing intense defense allowed for opportunities for easier baskets which led to the blowout victory.
Clara Silva led all scorers with 18 points on 9-14 shooting and was joined by Clara Strack (15) as well as Georgia Amoore (13) and Dazia Lawrence (10) in double-figure scoring.
Kentucky will host Wofford in the newly renovated Historic Memorial Coliseum next Tuesday with tip-off scheduled for 6 PM ET.
