Here’s our round-up of all the latest Liverpool news for Tuesday 8 October as Darwin Nunez was reduced to tears by Marcelo Bielsa.
Salzburg demand answers
When Jurgen Klopp left Liverpool at the end of last season, the future looked so bright for his assistant Pep Lijnders.
Whilst no one pretended Liverpool’s success was anything other than Jurgen Klopp’s achievement, there was rightful acknowledgement that the implementation of such a successful system would be impossible without a masterful backroom staff.
Lijnders was on top of this. As a result, a move to head coach at Red Bull Salzburg – who had won the Austrian league 10 straight times between 2013-14 and 2022-23 – seemed like the right move for Lijnders.
And it started so well; three straight wins to start the league season and qualification for the Champions League,as was expected. But then the wheels fell off.

Nunez needs affection
Luis Suarez has openly criticised Uruguay’s manager Marcelo Bielsa, accusing him of creating a negative environment within the squad.
One incident that particularly stands out for Suarez involves Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, whom he says was left in tears after receiving harsh criticism from Bielsa during a half-time break.
The former Liverpool striker, who announced his retirement from the national team last month, was a mentor and role model for Nunez throughout their 13 matches together. After Suarez’s retirement, Nunez paid tribute to his “idol” on social media, highlighting the strong bond between the two.

Fans get something wrong about Gravenberch
There is no arguing that Ryan Gravenberch has had a wonderful start to the season.
After looking like a bit of a wayfaring stranger last season, unsettled and with unremarkable on-pitch performance, his development has been nothing short of amazing.
The Dutchman is now essential to how Liverpool are playing. He is resisting the press with alarming regularity, making a body faint and spin with the ball a signature of his already.
It allows Liverpool to burst into space against a defensive block that are constantly on the back foot.
And the praise hasn’t just been limited to the pitch.

Chiesa, 26, was a Euro 2020 winner with the Azzurri; his performances throughout the tournament led the forward to become a household name in his native Italy and a transfer target for many top clubs.
However, his career was affected by a severe ACL injury which occurred in January 2022, ending his season early and putting him on a long stretch of rehabilitation.
He recovered well enough to become a key player for Juventus last season, scoring 10 goals in 37 matches overall and winning a Coppa Italia title with the Bianconeri.

Kelleher wants to shake Klopp nickname
Much has been made of Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation this year.
Alisson is the undoubted No.1, yet has already missed games through injury and seems to be set to miss more after suffering a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace at the weekend.
Caoimhin Kelleher replaced Alisson for 26 games in all competitions last season. After promising showings the season before that, in which former head coach Jurgen Klopp referred to him as “the best number 2 [goalkeeper] in the world”, Kelleher made a name for himself.

Ngumoha’s incredible stats
Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha has been quietly impressive since joining the Reds and his numbers reflect that as well.
When the teenage winger was confirmed to have joined the club, the Reds knew they were getting a special player.
Even after his departure from Chelsea, club legends like John Terry tipped him to go far in the game.
However, while all the hype was enough to get fans excited, it’s always important to judge a player by his actions and what they do on the pitch, rather than what others say about him.
