Furyk & Friends suspended briefly to clear standing water from several greens, play has resumed

Date:

The Constellation Furyk & Friends had a 16-minute delay on Sunday at the Timuquana Country Club to clear standing water that had collected on several of the greens.

Play in the PGA Tour Champions event was suspended at 10:50 a.m. and it took workers only a few minutes to squeegee the water off the greens. Players were held in place during the delay and were able to resume at 11:06 a.m.

The course was not evacuated. Despite the occasionally heavy rain, there is no lighting and most of the golf course, which was renovated two years ago, has absorbed the water. If there are no further delays, the final group is on target to finish shortly before 3 p.m.

Fans are still being admitted to the course. Shuttle buses from the Orange Park Mall and NAS Jacksonville continued running, as were the St. Johns River Taxis.

Who’s leading in the Furyk & Friends?

At the time of the suspension, Rocco Mediate had a one-shot lead over Bob Estes at 12-under par. Mediate and Estes began the day tied for the lead.

Mediate birdied the second hole. Estes had a birdie at No. 1 and a bogey at No. 2.

Vijay Singh of Ponte Vedra Beach, who began the day tied for third, three shots back, double-bogeyed the par-3 second hole and fell into a tie for 16th at the time of the delay. Jason Caron birdied three of his first five holes and moved into third at 10-under, Greg Chalmers was three-under through seven and was 9-under.
