New Mexico State’s men’s and women’s basketball teams each play one home game this week on Thursday evening. The men face Texas A&M Corpus-Christi, while the women face UTSA. Each has a chance to start 3-0, which would be the first time both of the Aggies’ basketball teams did so at the same time since the 1993-94 season.
NM State’s men’s team is 2-0 and coming off wins against New Mexico Highlands and Utah Tech last week. The Aggies faced the Trailblazers in its latest game, defeating them 75-63 on the road. Senior guards Zawdie Jackson and Christian Cook combined to score 45 points, with Jackson’s 24 leading NM State. Maine transfer and senior forward Peter Filipovity also made his Aggies debut after missing the Highlands game with a back injury.
NM State’s women’s team is also 2-0 and coming off wins against UC Irvine and Utah Tech last week. The Aggies defeated the Trailblazers 85-63 in its home opener last Thursday off the back of 35 points from senior guard Molly Kaiser. She received Conference USA Player of the Week honors for her performance. Senior forward Fanta Gassama contributed with 14 points.
