Giants signing veteran punter Matt Haack ahead of Sunday’s matchup vs. Bengals: report

Date:

The Giants are signing veteran punter Matt Haack ahead of Sunday night’s matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals with Jamie Gillan listed as questionable due to a hamstring injury, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Haack, 30, beat out five other punters in a workout on Friday, Schefter noted. Sunday’s game will be his 100th career game in the NFL and mark his eighth season in the league.

The Arizona State product spent the first four years of his career with the Miami Dolphins from 2017-2020 and started all 16 games each season. Haack then played 17 games for the Buffalo Bills in 2021 and another 17 games for the Indianapolis Colts in 2022. He played one game for the Cleveland Browns last year, but has not been on a roster in 2024 until now.

Haack owns a career average of 44.5 yards per punt with 37 percent of his punts being downed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

Gillan has been with the Giants since 2022, starting all five games this year and 17 games in each of the last two seasons. Through five games, he’s averaging 47.8 yards per punt with a long of 67 yards.
