Girls tennis: Litch’s Dille, Minnewaska duo take 4th at state

Oct. 25—MINNEAPOLIS — Litchfield’s Isla Dille and Minnewaska’s Alia Randt and Megan Thorfinnson placed fourth at the Class A state individual tournament on Friday at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center.

Dille, a sophomore singles player seeded fourth at the state meet, lost 6-3, 6-0 against top-seeded Chloe Alley of Minnehaha Academy in the semifinals and fell 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7) to third-seeded Casey Cronin of Holy Family in the third-place match.

Alley advanced to play second-seeded Fatemeh Vang of Blake in the Class A state singles championship match. Alley secured the title match with a 6-0, 6-3 win.

Randt and Thorfinnson, a junior and senior doubles team seeded third at the state tournament, lost 7-5, 6-0 to unseeded Ally Mersman and Madison Ward of Maple River in the semifinals and dropped their third-place match 6-4, 7-6 (7) against unseeded Therese Bauer and Rylee Thieren of Lake City.

Mersman and Ward advanced to play their unseeded Eagles’ teammates Macy Sohre and Kelsey Jaeger in the Class A state doubles championship. Sohre and Jaeger won the title match with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
