Girls tennis roundup: Litchfield Dragons play well in WCC tourney

Sep. 26—GLENCOE — The Litchfield girls tennis team had a strong outing at the Wright County Conference tournament on Thursday.

All of the Dragons’ singles players won both of their matches and one of Litchfield’s doubles teams went undefeated.

Isla Dille beat Glencoe-Silver Lake’s Anna Sievert and Annandale’s Avery Gagnon at No. 1 singles. Maya Wuotila defeated New London-Spicer’s Brooke Glauvitz and the Cardinals’ Ella Rassier at No. 2 singles. Emma Wuotila earned victories against Hutchinson’s Norah Wendling and Annandale’s Bryn Fahey. Marcella Bruning had wins against the NLS’ Leia Farhat and the Tigers’ Zoe Verhasselt.

Elly Woelfel and Emily Michels, Litchfield’s No. 3 doubles team, beat the Panthers’ Audrey Howell and Ava Waller and the Wildcats’ Erin Pederson and Olivia Paffrath.

NLS had one of its doubles teams go unbeaten. Heidi Taunton and Averie Turner, the Wildcats’ No. 2 doubles pairing, beat Glencoe-Silver Lakes’ Eva Stuewe and Jadyn Stuewe and Annandale’s Charlotte Wolff and Nora Millner.

Litchfield plays Le Sueur-Henderson at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at Le Sueur. NLS begins play in the Section 6A tournament on Thursday.

Kennedy Mara cruised to a victory at No. 1 singles for Willmar in its loss at Sauk Rapids.

Mara beat Sydney Entner 6-0, 6-3.

The Cardinals lost in three sets at No. 1 doubles. The Storm’s Miah Boos and CeCe Hennek beat ninth-graders Nora Hesges and Grace Kalkbrenner 3-6, 7-5, 7-6.

Sauk Rapids is 2-8 in the Central Lakes Conference and 5-11 overall. Willmar is 0-8 and 1-16.

Willmar begins play in Section 8AA on Thursday.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa got three singles wins in its victory against MACCRAY at Clara City.

BBE’s Hannah Hirman and MACCRAY’s Iris Donner played a three-set tiebreak at No. 1 singles. Hirman won 6-7 (4), 6-3, 10-8.

The Jaguars’ pair of doubles victories also came in three-set tiebreaks. Grace Berndt and Ellan Fischer won 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 10-3 at No. 1 doubles against MACCRAY’s Mia Shubert and Haven Osterfeld. Olive Olson and Hannah Wurm earned a 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 win against the Wolverines’ Maggie Burnett and Lilyanne Pauling.

Kylie Prekker won her No. 4 singles match in straight sets for MACCRAY, which also got a win from its No. 2 doubles pairing in Ava Janssen and Ellie Bosch.

BBE begins play in the Section 6A tournament on Thursday. MACCRAY competes in the West Central Conference tournament at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Alexandria.
