Girls tennis roundup: NLS Wildcats get a Saturday split

Sep. 22—NEW LONDON — The New London-Spicer girls tennis team earned a sweep against Sauk Centre before being swept by Perham/New York Mills as it was host to a triangular on Saturday.

Against Perham/NYM, the Wildcats had two of their doubles matches reach a third set.

Perham/NYM’s Lucy Wallgren and Bella Huwe beat NLS’ Heidi Taunton and Averie Turner in a third-set tiebreak, winning 5-7, 7-5, 10-6 at No. 2 doubles. Miley Anderson and Andie Janke also won in a tiebreak at No. 3 doubles for Perham/NYM, earning a 5-7, 7-5, 12-10 victory over the Wildcats’ Olivia Paffrath and Erin Pederson.

Brooke Glauvitz led the way for NLS in its win against Sauk Centre. The sophomore won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles against the Mainstreeters’ Emily Wojtanowitz.

Amyra Gamez, Emma Friedel and Leia Farhat were also victorious at Nos. 1, 3 and 4 for the Wildcats.

Jadyn Proehl and Addi Nelson, Taunton and Turner, and Paffrath and Pederson were the doubles winners for NLS.

The Wildcats play host to Montevideo at 4 p.m. Monday in New London.

The Dragons got a pair of singles wins and two doubles victories in their win against Staples-Motley at Litchfield.

Maya Wuotila won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles against Staples-Motley’s Heidi Zimmerman and Marcella Bruning earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles against the Cardinals’ Andrea Digiovanni.

Emma Knudsen and Molly Patten and Emmy Woelfel and Emily Michels also earned wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles for the Dragons.

Litchfield hosts Foley at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Crookston swept the doubles matches to sneak past the Dragons at Litchfield.

Litchfield earned wins from its Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles players. Isla Dille, Maya Wuotila and Emma Wuotila were the victors for the Dragons.
